Elemez Mobility Intelligence vs. MDM
Managed Doesn’t Mean Working
Mobile Device Management / Enterprise Mobility Management (MDM/EMM) platforms show how devices are managed. Elemez shows how mobile work is actually performing.
Using only an MDM, a device can appear enrolled, compliant, and online while the worker still cannot complete the task.
Elemez does not replace the MDM, but adds continuous, independent evidence across supported devices, applications, batteries, networks, management platforms, and device manufacturers.
Two layers. Different Jobs.
MDM/EMM asks: Is the device enrolled, configured, secured, and compliant?
Elemez Mobility Intelligence asks: Is the mobile technology reliable, usable, and cost-effective during real work?
MDM/EMM Management & Control Layer
Enrollment | Configuration | App Distribution | Security |
Compliance | Remote Management
Elemez Mobility Intelligence
Collect | Correlate | Diagnose | Alert | Benchmark | Report |
Device Reliability | Application stability | Battery behavior | Network quality | Usage | Lost or idle assets | Estate-wide Performance
Used together, the two offer complete management and visibility/intelligence across mobile devices, apps, and network connections.
What each layer is designed to do.
| MDM/EMM | Elemez Mobility Intelligence | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | Control and manage the endpoint estate | Explain field performance, reliability, usage, and cost |
| Primary User | IT | IT, Operations, Finance, Procurement |
| Core questions answered | Is the device enrolled, configured, secured and compliant? | How can I proactively see problems and fix them? Can the worker do their job right now? Are we effectively controlling our mobility costs? |
| Data collected | Device state, policies, OS version | Real-time app, device, battery, and network performance & usage |
| Visibility into downtime | Limited, mostly ticket-driven | Continuous, proactive, and contextual |
| Detection model | Reactive, after failure is reported | Proactive, before work is disrupted |
| Root cause analysis | Manual, fragmented, often inconclusive | Correlated across domains |
| Battery management | May expose inventory or available health fields such as current battery % level. | Continuously analyze observed degradation, discharge and replacement evidence |
| Network management | Configure Wi-Fi, VPN and network policy | Continuously analyze Wi-Fi and cellular quality in operating context |
| App management | Distribute, configure and govern applications | Continuously observe performance patterns during use as well as easily track version numbers, usage and deployments. |
| Asset management | Inventory, ownership and management status | Deep Inventory insights. Recent activity, utilization and last-known evidence for lost or idle devices |
| Device replacement decisions | Time-based or anecdotal | Evidence-driven, based on actual condition |
| Outcome for the business | Tight control over mobile assets, but hidden downtime and waste that MDM cannot measure. | Measurable productivity and reliability improvements; cost savings (CAPEX and OPEX) |
| Relationship | Essential system of control | Complementary system of operational evidence |
A device status can appear “green” while frontline work has stopped.
An MDM platform’s dashboard often marks a device as “green” meaning that all is well in how it views the mobile asset’s status related to its role around installation, compliance and configuration. But that does not indicate the true status for stability and performance in the frontline worker’s hands.
- Battery: The device is compliant, but battery degradation forces a swap mid-shift.
- Application: The app update was completed successfully, but all updated devices are now in a perpetual reboot loop.
- Network: Remote workers consistently struggle to maintain stable 5G connections, and the MDM dashboard does not reflect any of this or provide detailed troubleshooting information.
IT Leaders admit MDMs do not give the visibility they need.
In an annual market study of IT leaders, 95% are using an MDM/EMM to manage mobility. But less than 1% say these tools give them the visibility they need to properly find and fix problems as they occur.

When should an enterprise add Elemez Mobility Intelligence?
The case is strongest when several of these conditions are present:
- Business-critical frontline workflows stop when mobile technology fails.
- The estate contains multiple MDM/EMM platforms, manufacturers or operating groups.
- Support receives intermittent complaints that are difficult to reproduce.
- Batteries or devices are replaced without confirmed failure evidence.
- Operations needs comparisons by site, route, shift, model or carrier.
- Lost, idle or underused devices create measurable cost.
- The organization expects to change MDM, OEM or service provider but wants consistent reporting.
One enterprise can have more than one MDM
In B2M’s 7th Annual State of Enterprise Mobility survey, 73% of participating organizations using MDM/EMM reported using more than one MDM vendor.
Elemez is positioned to maintain a consistent Mobility Intelligence layer across the supported estate, regardless of the chosen MDM(s).
Elemez does not take control away from the MDM/EMM
Keep using MDM/EMM for enrollment, configuration, application delivery, policy, security, and compliance. Deploy Elemez to supported endpoints for continuous field evidence.
Use the Elemez web-based interface directly or share approved intelligence with BI, ITSM, and partner systems through supported APIs and exports.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) are covered here.
Our MDM vendor provides analytics. Why add Elemez?
You may not need to. Start by evaluating the operational questions your current MDM-based analytics cannot answer. Elemez becomes relevant when you need deeper frontline evidence, estate-wide correlation, or near-real-time event tracking / capturing across a deep array of topics, and a unified view across supported management and hardware environments.
Will Elemez replace my MDM?
No. It complements and adds value to the management layer regardless of which MDM vendor(s) you choose. Elemez is not an enrollment, policy, security or compliance system. It is the operational intelligence layer above those controls.
Does Elemez support every Device Manufacturer?
We support all major Android and Windows manufacturers. Please contact us to discuss your current device estate and we’ll provide guidance.
Do I have to add another dashboard to our daily workflows?
Most customers use Elemez’s browser-based dashboard interface as the common way to see health and usage intelligence across their mobile estate. But we also support integrating that same intelligence into your Business Intelligence (BI) reporting tools, Microsoft Excel, and other reporting and analysis tools to provide much-needed insights for your business and operational decision-making.
